Reblog At Your Own Risk


Everyone reading this blog probably knows that re-use of someone else's writing or images can lead to a violation of copyright law. But, as the Internet continues to change how we share information, almost no one (myself included) can predict how the copyright rules will be applied to content that is linked to or reposted from another site. In this June 9th, 2010 LA Times blogpost, Mark Milian considers some of the issues raised by the "reblog" functionality provided by Tumblr and Movable Type (expanding upon the "retweet" function offered by Twitter - giving bloggers a way to instantly repost someone else's content, but also testing the tolerance of some authors and content providers for what they see as copyright infringement).
