Crowd or Tribe Funding

On April 27th, 2010 Jeff Steele wrote a very helpful (and comprehensive) piece for The Huffington Post about the great variety of strategies indie film producers are using to raise money for their films from their potential audience online. This form of solicitation has been called "crowd funding" or "tribe funding." Crowd funding is a very promising trend for indie filmmakers. In addition to raising tens of thousands of dollars in small increments, filmmakers are learning that, when audience members play even a small role in getting a film made, they often become the most enthusiastic marketers for the finished film.
