$5 Cover: MTV and Craig Brewer Team Up And A New Form of Storytelling May Emerge
From the LA Times on April 27th, 2009, film writer Patrick Goldstein analyzes what makes MTV's new series, $5 Cover, unique. This new MTV series, set in the Memphis music scene with real musicians in virtually all the acting roles, will air on multiple platforms. Comprised of 15 six minute episodes, the series is a collision of music, reality TV and the web. Orchestrated by filmmaker Craig Brewer, writer-director of "Hustle & Flow," and MTV's head of New Media David Gale, $5 Cover may point the way to a new form of storytelling that bridges traditional episodic TV and the web.
