As of March 20th, 2016, Star Wars: The Force Awakens (released into 4,134 theaters in the US and on movie screens in dozens of other countries one week before Christmas in 2015) has grossed an estimated US $2,057,603,187 worldwide. And that doesn't include home video - the film arrives on digital platforms on April 1, 2016 and Blu-ray and DVD on April 5th, 2016 - or theme parks and merchandise.
So just how much money can Disney expect to make - after expenses - on the latest Star Wars film?
$US 1.3 billion?
That's the estimate made in the March 19th, 2016 NY Times by media analyst Michael Nathanson.
