Indie film marketing expert Sheri Candler has updated her invaluable post (as of January 14th, 2013) that lists all the "major items you should prepare and duties to perform at different stages in production in order to implement the marketing strategy of your film."
Please note: Sheri Candler's "checklist takes into consideration that you have ALREADY identified and researched the core audience of the film. Also, you have written your marketing plan and budget."
Identifying your audience - writing detailed profiles for members of your core audience - and building a detailed marketing plan and budget are steps that you can't avoid. Sheri Candler's checklist is a very handy tool - but you (and your PMD?) need to sit down and work on all the supporting materials that will give this checklist meaning.
