WEARVR - VR App Store

Founded in early 2014 and launched in July of 2014, WEARVR is an Atlanta, Georgia-based cross-platform VR app store, offering free and paid VR games and experiences across the major VR platforms including the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Gear VR, and Google Cardboard.

Entrepreneurs and content creators might want to avail themselves of WEARVR's online self-submission portal for VR developers. Apparently anyone can submit their VR app or content to the store and get a 75/25% revenue split (better than the Apple and Android app store typical split of 70/30% in favor of the developers).

According to an April 2015 interview with WEARVR co-founder Nic Mitham: “Our priorities include growing and harnessing the power of our community, and increasing the number and range of experiences offered through the store. We’re also looking to add a recommendation engine and implement user-curated game lists. There are plans for exclusive WEARVR content and in-browser streaming. A mobile discovery app is on the way, as is the introduction of 360 degree video experiences.”

While much of the revenue excitement around VR seems to be focussed on hardware and gaming - there are also companies building educational experiences, and a number of those - like Colosseum - can be found on WEARVR.
