Saul Bass Movie Poster Gallery

A post to film.com links to every significant Saul Bass movie poster.

From the 1950s until the 1990s, Saul Bass' work on movies (posters and title sequences) for directors like Alfred Hitchcock, Otto Preminger, Billy Wilder, Stanley Kubrick and Martin Scorsese set the standard.

Bass' breakthrough work in Hollywood was the poster and title sequence for Otto Preminger's The Man with the Golden Arm (1955).

In the 1950s,  Bass also started working with Alfred Hitchcock - Hitchcock fans will remember the title sequences for Vertigo (1958), North by Northwest (1959) and Psycho (1960). (Bass also had a hand in designing the famous shower sequence from Psycho.)

Toward the end of his life, Bass worked with Martin Scorsese on the title sequences for Goodfellas (1990), Cape Fear (1991), The Age of Innocence (1993), and Casino (1995), his last title sequence.

Below are three Hitchcock title sequences designed by Saul Bass - and beneath that is a short documentary, produced by Universal, about Mr. Bass' collaboration with Mr. Hitchcock (followed by three other fascinating documentaries about other key Hitchcock collaborators):
