How Blind People Use Instagram
The democratization of filmmaking is giving voice to creators whose work might never have been widely circulated before. I've been posting examples recently, and this short video about blind photographer Tommy Edison was too good to pass up. In this YouTube video, Mr. Edison explains how he uses Instagram to capture, edit, caption and share images - without help from anyone except the apps on his iPhone. In addition to his still photos, I'm also intrigued by Mr. Edison's use of social media to spread this short film about himself. Can anyone doubt that the new tools for online storytelling - and how the different forms of expression and circulation are becoming available to millions of people - are changing the global culture in ways that are often profoundly inspirational?
