On February 8th, 2012 the NY Times ran a great interview by Mekado Murphy with the editor of Moneyball, Christopher Tellefesen. In particular, Cris Tellefsen describes the process of cutting a short sequence - where a computer whiz played by Jonah Hill explains to baseball manager Billy Beane (played by Brad Pitt) how statistics can help their team.
