More on Interactive TV: Apple Patents Gesture Control

In August 2011, Apple patented an "uncomplicated, economical, yet highly effective 3D input device" that could control a TV or computer.

Taken together with other recent developments concerning interactive TV - a pattern emerges: Users will soon be talking and gesturing to control their TV and web-enabled devices.

According to Apple's patent: "A three-dimensional imaging and display system is provided in which user input is optically detected in an imaging volume by measuring the path length of an amplitude modulated scanning beam as a function of the phase shift thereof. Visual image user feedback concerning the detected user input is presented." In other words, wave your hands to control what's on the screen.
