Studios Are Restructuring Due To Collapse of DVDs


In an incisive Oct. 3, 2011 article in The Wrap, Brent Lang makes the connection between Paramount’s decision to merge its home entertainment, licensing and digital operations and Disney's recent consolidation of its DVD and toy divisions: The sudden collapse of the market for DVDs in the US and Europe caught Hollywood offguard but the big studios are responding now by folding the "segregated divisions" that previously handled different types of physical media into new (leaner) corporate structures. Expect layoffs to follow.
