Lionsgate's Questionable Use of the Term "Microbudget" to Describe Their Latest Film Initiative

Mini-major studio Lionsgate has co-opted the term "microbudget" to describe their new slate of lower budget films. Lionsgate is projecting 10 films per year - but so far they have only announced 3: a supernatural/haunted-house genre piece called 6 Miranda Drive, a loosing your virginity comedy with the worst title ever - Gay Dude, and "a comedic look at life after the fallout of a religious apocalypse" called Rapturealoza. All Lionsgate "Microbudget" films will be made for under $2 million each. As the students in the MFA program at UCF (who make their features for well under $50,000 each) will attest, real microbudget features are made for considerably less.
